Design Your Own Engagement Ring in Dubai, Step by Step

Most people who ask us about a custom engagement ring already know roughly what they want: an oval, perhaps, in yellow gold, not too tall. The real question is how to turn that picture into a ring without committing to something unseen. Here is how to design your own engagement ring with us in Dubai, and where the online designer ends and bespoke work begins.

Before you start: settle four things

• Her gold. Match the jewellery she wears every day. A white gold ring beside yellow bangles can look like the odd one out.
• Her day. Someone who types, trains or cooks will live more happily with a lower, smoother ring.
• Your priority. Decide whether a bigger stone matters more than a natural one, a halo or a particular shape: each moves the price.
• The hand. In many Arab families the ring is worn on the right hand until the wedding, then moves to the left. Measure a ring she wears on that finger with our ring size guide, late in the day, when fingers are fullest.

Build it in the designer, one choice at a time

Lab-grown diamond is chemically identical to mined diamond, grown above ground; natural here means a mined diamond with a grading report. Either way, ask what paperwork comes with the stone and read it before you pay. Our lab-grown and natural diamond comparison sets out the trade-offs.

Judge the size on the hand, not the number

The preview is drawn at true scale on a UAE size 52 finger, about 16.5 mm across, in four skin tones. As you move the carat slider, watch the stone, not the figure: size grows with the cube root of the weight. From 1.00 to 1.50 ct an oval grows only about 14% longer, from 7.7 to 8.8 mm. Doubling a round to 2.00 ct takes it from about 6.5 to 8.2 mm; our carat-to-millimetre size chart covers every shape.

The preview has two limits. On a slimmer finger, say a 48 (about 15.3 mm), the same stone covers more; on a 56 (about 17.8 mm), less. And the view is from above: it shows the face-up size, not how high the stone sits.

Press "Get the price on WhatsApp" and the design arrives written out, with the stone's size in millimetres, a code such as MZ-HAL-OV-150-WG-L and a link that reopens that exact ring. We reply with the price, daily from 10:00 to 22:00.

Sending a design asks for a price; it places no order. Change the carat, shape or diamond and send it again: the code changes too, so we both know which ring we mean. "Share this design" sends the link to anyone helping, such as a sister checking her size.

After the price: see it in person

To compare stones or try a setting first, walk into the boutique any day or book a private viewing at the boutique or at home, and bring your design code.

Before you confirm, check the size, the engraving's exact wording and the stone's paperwork. A designed ring is made for one hand, so get every detail right before you approve it. When to go fully bespoke

If your ring can be built from the options above, the designer is the quickest route. Some ideas cannot: a sketch, a photograph of a ring you cannot find, a family heirloom to rework. That is bespoke design. You bring the reference to a consultation, and we design it with you and show you a 3D preview before anything is cast.

What makes a design easy to wear

• Height. A lower stone catches less on sleeves, hair and a shayla, so ask how high your setting sits.
• Points. The tips of a pear or marquise are its most exposed part. Ask how they are held.
• Proportion. A 2.00 ct round is about 8.2 mm across, about half the inside diameter of a size 52 ring (16.5 mm). An oval of the same weight is about 9.7 × 7.2 mm and runs along the finger.
• Stones in the band. They limit how far a ring can be resized, so settle the size first. Your first resizing is free.
• Upkeep. White gold's rhodium plating wears with time. Bring it in once a year for a check of the settings.

Questions we hear at the counter

How much does a custom engagement ring cost in Dubai? It depends on the centre stone (its carat, shape, quality and whether it is lab-grown or natural), on the setting, since a halo or pavé adds diamonds, and on the weight of 18K gold. We quote each design on WhatsApp rather than publishing prices.

Can I see the ring before it is made? In the designer, at true scale on a hand; at the boutique, stones and settings in person. Bespoke work adds a 3D preview.

What if I do not know her ring size? Choose "Not sure yet" and send it anyway, then measure the inside of a ring she wears: a size 52 is about 16.5 mm across.
