Bridal Gold in the UAE: What to Buy, When and How Much

The engagement ring, the wedding bands, the bridal set and the gifts: what to buy first, how to budget by grams, and the timing that avoids last-week panic.

Wedding gold in the UAE is several purchases spread over months, made by different people, for different moments. Planned together it is calm and well-priced; left to the last fortnight it is neither. This is the order that works.

1. The engagement ring (three to six months before)

Usually 18K white gold with a solitaire, because 18K holds a stone securely. Decide the stone first: a diamond with its own grading report, or a zircon solitaire, which looks the part at a fraction of the price and is described honestly on the invoice. Then the setting: four or six prongs, a plain or pavé band. Measure her size from a ring she wears on that finger; our size guide shows how. Ask for the karat, the weight, the making charge and, for a diamond, the report. Overpaying on engagement rings is almost always a making charge or a stone premium you did not see; the making-charges guide shows how to see it.

2. The wedding bands (two to three months before)

Two plain bands or matching signets in the same karat, engraved inside with the date. Order early: engraving and sizing take a week or two. The first resizing of any Mazimo ring is complimentary, so a band that is slightly off after the wedding is not a problem.

3. The bridal set (two months before)

The family's gift and the piece worn on the day: traditionally 21K or 22K, because it is both the celebration and the savings. A necklace, earrings and one or two bangles, chosen to match in colour and scale. Budget in grams first, then check the live rate. A heavy set with a low making charge holds its value; see the investment guide.

4. Gifts for the families (six weeks before)

Bangles for mothers and sisters, a chain or signet for the groom, small pendants for children. Chains and earrings need no size; bangles need the hand measured. The gift guide covers what suits whom.

5. The paperwork (as you go)

Every piece with its certificate and tracking code, kept in one folder. It is what the insurer asks for, what the buy-back is priced on, and what proves the set's karat if it is ever questioned.

Sizing the bride without spoiling the surprise

Borrow a ring for an hour and measure the inside diameter. For bangles, measure the widest part of her hand with a soft tape. If neither is possible, choose pieces that need no size and let her choose the rest with you afterwards.

The budget in one line

Grams × rate = the gold; add the making charge; add 5% VAT. Decide the grams first and the rest follows.
