Gold Earrings Style Guide: Day, Office and Evening
A practical guide to gold earrings: the four shapes, where each one belongs, how to match them to your face and hair, and what to check before buying.

Earrings are the piece people notice first, because they sit beside your face. They are also the piece most often bought for the wrong occasion: a drop that is perfect for dinner but catches on a headset by ten in the morning. This guide sorts the shapes by where they belong.
The four shapes
- Studs. Sit flat on the lobe. Invisible in a hijab, silent on a call, the everyday default.
- Hoops. A circle from the lobe. Small hoops are daily wear; larger ones are for the evening.
- Drops. Hang below the lobe and move. The most flattering shape for most faces and the most formal.
- Sculpted. Open forms, ovals, geometry: a piece of design worn at the ear. Our Italian ovals are this.
Every day
Studs or small hoops in 18K, which is hard enough to keep a post straight. Weight matters more than you think: under three grams a pair is forgotten by lunchtime; over five you will feel them by evening. Posts with butterfly backs are fine for studs; for anything heavier, ask for a screw or lever back.
The office
Something that moves a little but does not swing: a short drop, a sculpted shape that ends above the jaw. Our Spanish drops are made for this: light, articulated, quiet on a headset.
Evening
Length and light. A long drop or a large sculpted shape, in polished gold that catches the room. This is where 21K earns its colour. Keep the neck simpler: a long earring and a statement necklace compete.
Face shape, briefly
Rules here are loose, but two hold. A round face is lengthened by drops and slim shapes and widened by round hoops and button studs. A long face is balanced by studs, short drops and rounder shapes. Angular faces take curves well; soft faces take geometry well. Try both in the mirror; the right pair is obvious in seconds.
Hair and hijab
Hair worn down hides studs and shows drops; hair worn up shows everything, so a stud can be enough. Under a hijab, studs and small hoops sit comfortably; a drop needs the fabric to be loose at the ear.
Before you buy
Check the posts are gold, not plated. Check the pair matches in weight. Check the backs hold. Ask for the weight in grams and the karat; they are on every Mazimo product page. And keep the certificate: a pair of earrings is the piece most often lost, and the piece most often insured.
At Mazimo. Every piece is weighed in front of you at Al Manal Center, Deira, priced on the live gold rate of the day, and leaves with a certificate of purity and a tracking code you can check any time at mazimo.ae/track. Delivery across the UAE is insured and complimentary; unworn pieces can be exchanged within 48 hours of delivery.
