# What Gold to Give: Weddings, Eid and Anniversaries in the UAE

In the Gulf, gold is the gift that says something and keeps its worth. It is also the gift most often given in the wrong size, or in a style the recipient will never wear. This guide is about giving it well.

## Set the budget in grams, not dirhams

Decide the karat and the weight, then check the [live rate](https://mazimo.ae/gold-rates): the price follows. A 22K piece keeps more of its value; an 18K piece can be finer and more wearable. For a gift meant to be kept as savings, choose 21K or 22K with a low making charge. For a gift meant to be worn every day, choose 18K and pay for the work.

## Weddings

For the bride, a set that can be worn again: a pair of 18K earrings, a chain with a pendant, a bangle. For the couple, a matched pair of plain bands or signets. For close family giving on behalf of the household, a 21K or 22K bangle is the traditional choice, and the one most likely to be handed down. ## Eid

Smaller, personal, wearable the same day: a slim bangle, a [pair of drop earrings](https://mazimo.ae/shop/18k-spanish-earrings), a fine chain, a signet ring with an initial. Children traditionally receive a small pendant or a tiny bangle.

## Anniversaries

## Get the size right without asking

Borrow a ring she wears on that finger for an hour and measure its inside diameter; our [size guide](https://mazimo.ae/guides/ring-size) converts it. For a bangle, measure the widest part of her hand with a tape. If you cannot, choose a chain, earrings or a pendant, which need no size, or rely on the complimentary first resizing.

## Give the paperwork with the piece

A gift of gold should come with its certificate and tracking code: they are what make it exchangeable and insurable. Ask for the invoice without the price if you prefer; the certificate still shows the karat and weight.
