# Try a Diamond Ring On Virtually, Then Find Your Size > How to try a diamond ring on virtually with your phone camera: what it shows, what it cannot, and how to find your real UAE ring size. The ring appears on your ring finger in the gold colour and size you chose, and follows your hand as it moves. It is a close match to the ring, not a photograph of it, and it does not measure your finger, so find your real size separately. Nothing is recorded or uploaded; the first start downloads about 17 MB. - **The limit:** it cannot tell you your size, the ring's weight or how a real diamond sparkles. - **Next step:** on Mazimo's UAE scale the size is the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres, so a ring you wear gives a good first figure in two minutes. ## What our camera try-on does 35 of our 48 diamond ring pages have the button; the other 13 are designs the camera cannot draw, such as signet, bezel and bypass rings, and their pages leave it out. It opens a full-screen camera view. A hand tracker finds 21 points on your hand (we use Google's open-source [MediaPipe hand landmarker](https://developers.google.com/edge/mediapipe/solutions/vision/hand_landmarker)), locates your ring finger and draws a 3D ring on it: gold band, claws and a faceted diamond. Three things carry over from the page, so choose them before you tap: the **gold colour** (18K white, yellow or rose), the **ring size** (UAE 46 to 62, or 52 if the page says "Not sure yet") and the **stone's length and width in millimetres**, taken from the ring's details rather than a carat guess. The try-on draws the colour you select; these pictures show the ring itself.* ## How to try a diamond ring on virtually, step by step 1. **Set the page first.** Choose the gold colour and your ring size. If you do not know it, leave "Not sure yet" and the try-on uses UAE 52. 2. **Tap "Try it on with your camera", then "Start camera".** Your browser asks for permission only now. A phone or tablet opens the rear camera, a computer the front one; "Switch camera" flips it. 3. **Show the back of your hand, fingers up,** facing the light, the whole hand in view at about arm's length against a plain background. Take off any ring on that finger. After about three seconds without a hand, it prompts you. 4. **Move slowly.** Turn your hand to see the ring from other sides. "Save photo" makes a picture on your device, with a small MAZIMO mark in the corner. ## What a camera view cannot tell you **Your size.** The try-on does not measure your finger. It draws the ring at the size you picked, and it judges how far your hand is from the camera partly from the usual length of adult finger bones, so a very small or large hand can make the ring look slightly big or small. One UAE size is only about 0.3 mm of ring diameter, too little for any phone picture to show, so never choose a size by how snug the band looks. **Sparkle.** The diamond is a bright, faceted computer drawing. How a real stone returns light depends on its cut and the light around it, so judge that from the ring's pictures and film, or in person. **Setting detail.** The view is built from our ring designer's settings, with the centre stone at its listed size. It does not draw a hidden halo, so on the Oval Hidden Halo Solitaire Ring the camera shows a standard solitaire setting with the same oval, and the stone's height can differ from the real ring. The ring's own pictures show the rest. It draws a standard solitaire setting, so the stone's height can differ from the real ring.* **Your device.** The button appears only on a secure (https) page in a browser that allows the camera, and the ring needs 3D graphics (WebGL). This is what a try-on answers best. The Oval Hidden Halo Solitaire Ring has a centre oval of 10.52 × 7.25 mm, and the camera draws the stone at those figures. Across a UAE size 52 finger, about 16.5 mm wide, 7.25 mm covers about 44%; on a size 48 (about 15.3 mm) about 47%, on a size 56 (about 17.8 mm) about 41%. The Marquise Solitaire Ring's marquise is 11.70 × 5.98 mm, as its page lists: about 36% of the same size 52 finger's width, but 11.70 mm long, so it reads as length. The Oval Halo Pavé Ring's centre oval, 8.26 × 5.72 mm, covers about 35%. A reading of 16.5 mm gives 51.8, so size 52. [GIA says](https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/how-to-determine-ring-size-tips-and-ring-size-chart/) the best way to get the right fit is to have a jeweller determine your size, probably with a set of finger gauges (a ring sizer). It also warns that string stretches and paper is easily damaged, so treat a paper strip as an estimate and have a jeweller confirm it. Fingers swell in the heat and shrink in the cold, and the ring must slip over your knuckle, so measure in the evening and have the finger and knuckle both checked. The first resizing is free, but made-to-order pieces are final sale (see our [returns policy](https://mazimo.ae/returns)) and a band set with diamonds can limit resizing, so settle the size before we make the ring. ## When a virtual try-on is not the right choice - **The ring is a surprise.** You cannot hold her hand to a camera, and the try-on would not give her size anyway. Borrow a plain ring she wears on that finger and measure it. - **You want to judge sparkle or colour.** A screen cannot show a stone's fire or colour grade. Ask for the grading report and see the stone. - **Your knuckle is much larger than your finger.** Have a jeweller gauge both rather than trust a strip of paper. The last test is a ring of that style on your own finger. Yes. It runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. The first start downloads about 17 MB of hand-tracking files, so use Wi-Fi if your data plan is limited. ### Is my camera picture stored or uploaded? No. The camera stays on your device and nothing is recorded or uploaded. It stops when you close the view, leave the page, or keep the tab in the background for about five seconds. ### Does a virtual try-on tell me my ring size? No. It draws the ring at the size you pick and does not measure your finger. Measure a ring you wear that fits, then have a jeweller check it. ### Why does the try-on not find my hand? Usually light, position or permission. Face the light, keep the whole hand in view, back towards the camera and fingers up, and allow the camera when asked.
