A ring is the piece you look at most, so it is worth choosing slowly. Five decisions decide whether you will still love it in ten years: the karat, the weight, the profile, the size and the making charge. Here they are in order.

## 1. Karat: 18K or 21K

For a ring worn daily, hardness matters. 18K holds a crisp edge and a mirror polish and secures stones; 21K is softer but richer in colour and holds more gold value. Our [18K signets](https://mazimo.ae/shop/gold-rings) are for every day; the [sculpted 21K statement rings](https://mazimo.ae/shop/21k-gold-rings) are for presence and resale. The full comparison is in [22K vs 21K vs 18K](https://mazimo.ae/journal/22k-vs-21k-vs-18k-gold-dubai).

## 2. Weight: what you are paying for

Ask for the weight in grams; it is on every Mazimo product page. A slim signet can be under two grams; a sculpted statement ring may be six or more. Weight times the day's rate is the gold value, and the rest is the making charge. A lighter, better-made ring can be the better buy.

## 3. Profile: how it sits

A flat-faced signet sits low and clears a sleeve. A domed or sculpted ring stands taller and catches more light. A knife-edge band feels slim; a rounded band feels soft. Try the ring with the hand relaxed, then make a fist: it should not pinch or spin.

## 4. Size: measure, then confirm

Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are largest, and never when cold. Wide bands run tight, so go up half a size. Our [ring size guide](https://mazimo.ae/guides/ring-size) shows the two-minute method; at the boutique we size the ring on your finger, and the first resizing of any Mazimo ring is complimentary.

## 5. Making charge: pay for work you can see

A flat signet face is quick to make; a filigree or ripple pattern is not. The charge should track the work. Ask for it separately, in writing, before you decide.

## Styles worth knowing

- **Signet:** a flat polished face, hexagon, heart, pear or oval, made for an initial. Light, modern, every day. From under two grams.
- **Statement:** sculpted 21K, wave and filigree work, worn alone. Heavier, richer, a family piece.
- **Solitaire:** 18K white gold, a single stone on a pavé band. The classic.
- **Bow and beaded:** playful, textured, stackable.

## Before you pay

Weight, karat, rate, making charge, size, and the certificate with a tracking code. If all six are on the invoice, you have bought well.

**At Mazimo.** Every piece is weighed in front of you at Al Manal Center, Deira, priced on the [live gold rate](https://mazimo.ae/gold-rates) of the day, and leaves with a certificate of purity and a tracking code you can check any time at [mazimo.ae/track](https://mazimo.ae/track). Delivery across the UAE is insured and complimentary; unworn pieces can be exchanged within 48 hours of delivery.
