# Can a Diamond Ring Be Resized? It Depends on the Band

> Often yes, but stones set along the band make a resize harder. See plain, pavé, halo, bezel and signet bands, and how to settle your UAE size first.

Can a diamond ring be resized? Often yes, but the band decides, not the diamond on top. [GIA says](https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/how-to-determine-ring-size-tips-and-ring-size-chart/) that, in general, rings with pavé and channel settings cannot be resized easily. In our view a plain band has no small stones to disturb, so it is the easier case. At Mazimo the first resizing is complimentary and only the first, so settle your size before the ring is made.

At a glance

- GIA says rings with diamonds around the entire band are very difficult to resize, and pavé and channel settings are hard to resize in general.
- Our designer offers UAE sizes 46 to 62, and the first resizing of a Mazimo ring is complimentary: only the first.
- Made-to-order diamond rings and resized pieces are final sale, so give us your size before the piece is finished.
- Later resizing is quoted before it starts, so ask for the quote first.

## What makes a diamond ring harder to resize?

Small stones set in the band. GIA's [guide to ring settings](https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/guide-to-ring-settings/) says pavé-set bands can be more difficult to resize, since adjusting the ring may disturb the small stones. A caption on a pictured ring in GIA's ring size guide adds that tiny diamonds set into a thicker band may make that ring difficult and more expensive to resize. Its other pictured examples include a twisted band and a triple band.

Our own guidance points the same way. Our ring size guide says rings with continuous patterns or full pavé have limits, so tell us your size before we finish the piece. Our [engagement ring settings guide](https://mazimo.ae/journal/engagement-ring-settings-guide) describes each setting, and this article takes resizing one band at a time.

## Can a pavé, halo, bezel or signet ring be resized?

Plain bands have no small stones to disturb, and pavé is the group GIA flags. Halo, bezel and signet rings depend on how the band is built. The table gives one example of each. Our article on the [new signet and bezel diamond rings](https://mazimo.ae/journal/new-diamond-rings-dubai-signet-bezel) introduces the last two.

| Band type | Example and what its page lists | What it means for resizing |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Plain band | [Oval Solitaire Ring, 3.5 ct](https://mazimo.ae/product/oval-solitaire-ring-3-06-ct): four claws, plain band, no side stones. [Slim Marquise Solitaire Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/slim-marquise-solitaire-ring): six claws, plain slim band. | No small stones are set in these bands. Ask the goldsmith all the same. |
| Pavé band | [Oval Pavé Solitaire Ring, 2 ct](https://mazimo.ae/product/oval-pave-solitaire-ring-1-95-ct): 14 band rounds of about 1.8 mm. [Oval Pavé Solitaire Ring, 1.5 ct](https://mazimo.ae/product/oval-pave-solitaire-ring-1-47-ct): 16 band rounds. [Round Pavé Solitaire Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/round-pave-solitaire-ring): 168 rounds of about 0.9 mm along the band and beneath the centre. [Round Twist Pavé Solitaire Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/round-twist-pave-solitaire-ring): 26 rounds of 1.00 to 1.30 mm along a twisting band. [Round Milgrain Pavé Solitaire Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/round-milgrain-pave-solitaire-ring): 14 rounds of about 1.4 mm along the shoulders. | GIA says pavé bands are harder to resize. The two oval pages say the underside stays plain; the three round pages do not say how far the stones run. |
| Halo with pavé band | [Oval Halo Pavé Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/oval-halo-pave-ring): 18 band rounds of about 1.4 mm. | The halo sits around the centre stone, so in our reading the band decides. Its page says the band stones stop before the underside. |
| Bezel | [Oval Bezel Solitaire Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/oval-bezel-solitaire-ring): bezel-set centre, 25 accent rounds of about 1 mm in a ring beneath the bezel. [Emerald Bezel Solitaire Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/emerald-bezel-solitaire-ring): bezel-set emerald cut on a plain band, no side stones. | On the oval the small stones sit under the bezel, not along the band; the emerald has none. Neither page says anything about resizing, and GIA gives no verdict on bezels. |
| Broad band, stone set sideways | [Radiant Signet Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/radiant-signet-ring) and [Baguette Signet Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/baguette-signet-ring): flush in a flat-topped signet frame. [Emerald Faceted Ring](https://mazimo.ae/product/emerald-faceted-ring): four claws, stone set sideways. | All three are made to order in your size. Their bands are broad or widen toward the top, with no side stones, so settle the size first. |

Five of our twelve pavé-band rings say on their pages that the underside, or the lower part of the band, is plain, or that the stones stop before it. Seven say nothing either way: the Round Pavé Solitaire, Round Twist Pavé Solitaire, Round Milgrain Pavé Solitaire, Cushion Halo Pavé, Oval Bold Halo Pavé, Cushion Octagon Halo Pavé and Oval and Pear Three Stone Pavé rings.

Across our 48 diamond rings, the specifications list a plain band on 12, a pavé band on 12, a bezel on 5 and a broad sideways band on 3. The other 16 do not describe the band.

Two of these pages mention resizing directly. The Oval Pavé Solitaire Ring, 1.5 ct, page says a plain underside makes resizing simple. The Oval Halo Pavé Ring page says its band stones stop before the underside, so the ring can be resized. Those two pages describe how the band is built, not a number of sizes or a promise for your ring.

GIA also names settings we do not make. It says channel and bar settings can be difficult to resize, especially when the stones extend far around the band. It calls tension settings very difficult or sometimes impossible. Only the pavé point applies to our pavé bands. We sell no eternity ring; our [wedding band guide](https://mazimo.ae/journal/wedding-band-guide-uae) covers bands worn beside an engagement ring.

## Settle your UAE ring size before the ring is made

Giving the right size at the start avoids a resize. Our designer offers UAE sizes 46 to 62, or lets you choose "Not sure yet" when you do not know. The Emerald Faceted, Radiant Signet and Baguette Signet rings carry the line "Made to order in your size".

On the UAE scale the size is the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres. A size 52 is therefore about 16.55 mm across the inside (52 ÷ π = 16.55). One size is 1 mm of circumference, about 0.3 mm of diameter (1 ÷ π = 0.318).

To find your number, follow our [gold ring sizing guide](https://mazimo.ae/journal/gold-ring-sizing-guide-uae). The [camera try-on](https://mazimo.ae/journal/try-diamond-ring-on-with-camera-ring-size) will not settle it: it draws the ring at the size you pick and does not measure your finger.

GIA says fingers shrink in the cold and swell in the heat. Treat one reading as a starting point. GIA also says rings with wide bands, which it calls shanks, usually need to be a bit larger. Our broad sideways rings give no band width in millimetres, so tell us which size you are unsure about before you order.

## Can a diamond ring be resized at Mazimo, Dubai? What our policy says

The first resizing of a Mazimo ring is complimentary, and later work is quoted before it starts. Our goldsmiths repair Mazimo and non-Mazimo pieces at our boutique in Al Manal Center, Deira. Our [warranty](https://mazimo.ae/warranty) and [returns](https://mazimo.ae/returns) pages set out the rest.

| Situation | What our pages say |
| --- | --- |
| The first resizing of a ring | Complimentary, listed on the warranty page with rings and bangles. |
| Later resizing or other work outside the warranty | Quoted before the work starts. |
| Made-to-order diamond rings, and engraved or resized pieces | Final sale, because they are made or altered to order. They stay under the lifetime warranty, which covers craftsmanship defects and certified purity, not wear, accidental damage or third-party modifications. |
| A ring bought elsewhere | Our goldsmiths repair non-Mazimo pieces and quote before any work starts. |

Our diamond ring pages state no cost, no time and no maximum number of sizes for a resize. Our pages do not say what the first resizing covers when the change is large, or whether a resize of white gold includes re-plating. They do not promise to resize a ring bought elsewhere: they say only that repairs are quoted.

## Can a diamond ring be resized more than once?

Only the first resizing of a Mazimo ring is complimentary; a second or later one is quoted before it starts. We found no primary source that sets a technical limit on repeat resizing, so we state none. Ask the goldsmith whether your band can take another, and ask for the quote first.

If a ring moves to the other hand, measure the finger that will wear it. GIA advises [having rings professionally sized](https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/how-to-wear-engagement-ring-wedding-band/), since finger size can fluctuate.

## Before you order: five questions to ask

Ask these five questions before any metal is cut.

1. **Is the band plain?** Ask whether small stones run along it or all the way round.
2. **Is the size final?** Tell us before the piece is finished, and ask by when we need it.
3. **What if it is half a size out?** Our designer's sizes are whole numbers from 46 to 62, so ask what can be done rather than assume a half size exists.
4. **Which pieces are final sale?** Made-to-order diamond rings, and engraved or resized pieces.
5. **Who does the work?** Our goldsmiths quote first, and a modification by a third party on a Mazimo ring is outside the warranty.

## When resizing is not the right fix: a ring far from your size

If your ring is far from your size, or you are unsure of the size, ask us before the ring is made: a made-to-order diamond ring is final sale.

If you can only guess, GIA's tip is to go larger. It is easier to remove metal from a ring that is too big than to add it to one that is too small. That is general advice, not a commitment about any Mazimo ring. Our guide to [choosing an engagement ring in Dubai](https://mazimo.ae/journal/how-to-choose-an-engagement-ring-dubai) helps with the wider decision.

## Questions people ask

### Can a diamond engagement ring be resized?

Often, if the band is plain, because there are no small stones to disturb. GIA says pavé and channel settings cannot be resized easily. The first resizing of a Mazimo ring is complimentary.

### Can a pavé ring be resized?

GIA says pavé bands are harder to resize because adjusting the ring may disturb the small stones. Five of our twelve pavé-band rings say the underside is plain or the stones stop before it, so ask about the ring you like.

### Can a halo ring be resized?

The halo sits around the centre diamond, so in our reading the band decides; GIA gives no verdict on halos. Our Oval Halo Pavé Ring page says its band stones stop before the underside, so the ring can be resized. More in our [halo engagement ring guide](https://mazimo.ae/journal/halo-engagement-ring-guide-dubai).

### Can a bezel set ring be resized?

GIA gives no verdict on bezels, and our Oval Bezel Solitaire Ring page says nothing about resizing. Its small stones sit beneath the bezel, not along the band, so ask the goldsmith. Our [bezel and claw comparison](https://mazimo.ae/journal/bezel-vs-prong-setting-engagement-ring) covers the setting itself.

### How much does it cost to resize a diamond ring, and how many times can it be done?

We print no price for resizing. Only the first resizing of a Mazimo ring is complimentary, and later work is quoted before it starts. We give no number of times or sizes, because our ring pages state none and GIA's ring size and settings guides give none for stone-set bands. Other shops set their own terms, so ask them.
